IRAQ… Big Opportunities

The reconstruction of the infrastructure of Iraq is an enormous task, fundamental to the initialization of the economy. This highly complex undertaking requires logistic competence in every respect.

  • Post-liberation reconstruction cost estimates range between US$25-100bn over 5-10 years (US & UN estimates)

  • OPEC estimates:
    - Costs for repainting the existing oil export facilities: US$5bn
    - Cost for restoring production capacities to pre-gulf War level: US$5bn
    - Annual operating cost for maintaining production: US53bn

  • Reconstruction cost of post war Lebanon. East Timor & Bosnia were US$ 1,000 per capita (World Bank)

  • Public and private facilities, schools, hospitals, transportation venues and streets have to be rebuilt, in Baghdad, and in many other cities

  • Energy services and distribution in Iraq are severely crippled or dysfunctional. The reconstruction of an electricity supply is an immediate necessity.

  • The public and private health care system of Iraq will soon be under total reconstruction. With international assistance, new technologies and facilities must be implemented.

  • Telecommunications systems have been totally disrupted. In Iraq, there is opportunity to build a modern telecommunications system from the ground level. Because telecommunications is a global undertaking, it requires international partners.

Iraq has the world's second largest oil reserves after Saudi Arabia.
